裸の動物

　ヒトは『パンツをはいたサル』（栗本 慎一郎）と言われると「ならサルにパンツをはかせたらヒトになるのか」と言いたくなりますが、もちろんそれは暴論です。できたらシャツも着た方が良い、じゃなくて、ヒトとサルの差はむしろ「毛」にあると言えるでしょう。ヒトより「猿は毛が三本少ない」と言いますが、どうみても猿の方が毛は多そうです。むしろ人は『裸のサル』（デズモンド・モリス）の方が実態に近いでしょう。ただし実際にはヒトにも体毛があります。密度に差はありますが全身ほとんどの部分に。
　医学部で習った知識を蘇らせてみると、ヒトの身体の表面で誰でも間違いなく無毛の部分は……まぶた・眼球・唇・掌・爪・足の裏・亀頭……くらいだったかな？
　ヒトに限らず哺乳動物には基本的に「毛」がはえています。その機能はおそらく保温でしょうが、ヒトの毛にはあまり保温機能はなさそうです。だったら何のためにあるんでしょうねえ。むだ毛産業を儲けさせるため？

　そうそう、「裸のネズミ」なんてのはどうでしょう。正式には「ヌード・マウス」と言うのですが、貴重な実験動物です。もちろん「毛がない」ことが貴重なのではなくて、先天的に免疫機能に異常があって、拒絶反応を示さないことが。ですから何を移植しても受け入れてくれるので腫瘍の研究などには最適なのです。マウスの身になったら、毛はないし腫瘍は移植されるしそれを拒絶できないし、で面白くない人生（マウス生）でしょうけれどね。
