図書館のおかげです

　大晦日です。年末には今年の十大ニュースとかこの一年を振り返って、という記事を書くのが標準的な態度でしょうが、私は天の邪鬼ですから、一年の締めくくりとして一風変わった記事を書いてみましょう。

　たまには「私」という人間について赤裸々に語ってみようという趣向です。と言っても、自分自身について言及することにはあきらかに「自分に対する偏見フィルター」が（ほとんどの場合、厳しすぎるか甘すぎるかのどちらかに）機能しますから、客観的に私の行為に関する一領域の「データ」を並べて、そのデータ自身に物語らせよう、という目論見でやってみます。
　私は重度の活字中毒です。若い頃には標準的な厚み（200〜300ページ）の文庫本なら１時間程度で読み切れていましたが（ですから、本屋で数時間立ち読みをして文庫本を何冊か読み切る、が学生時代の休日の娯楽でした）、さすがに加齢とともに視力と集中力と背筋力が落ちてそれに比例して読書力は落ちています（背筋力？と思われるかもしれませんが、姿勢が崩れるとあちこちが痛くなって読書に集中できなくなってしまうのです）。それでも、テレビをほとんど見ない・晩酌をしない・当直は基本的に暇、という空き時間を生み出す三大メリットを有効に使って、古今東西硬軟理文老若男女おかまいなしの乱読を現在でも続けています。
　その中で医学のにおいが漂うものの感想をこれまでこちらの「読書感想」シリーズで紹介しています。最近ちょっと「読書感想」系の投稿が多くなっていますが、これはネタの水増しを狙っているわけではなくて、ここで紹介したい本を読むことがたまたま増えているからです（どうせ医学系の本を読むのは「仕事」の一部です。あくまで読書は趣味なので、趣味の時間はできるだけ自分の商売から離れたものを読もうとしてはいるのですが）。そこで、仕事以外で今月何を読んだかをちょっとまとめてみました。
　私は同時に何冊かを平行して読むことが多いのですが（本によって読む速度はバラバラです。休日に一挙に数冊まとめて読むこともありますし、ものによっては一日に数ページずつこつこつ読み続けることもあります）、読み始めた時期は問わずこの12月に入ってから昨日までの30日間に読了したものに限定してリストにしてみました（私はこの数年、二度読みや二度買いを予防するために、読んだ本の記録を残しているので、こういったリストアップは簡単です）。

　小説は、児童もの（ちなみにケネス・オッペルで一番のお勧めは『エアボーン』です）・冒険小説・寓話・現代小説、ノンフィクションに歴史もの、はては古い古いガリレオ・ガリレイやコペルニクスまで。なんというバラエティの豊かさ、と私は自画自賛しつつ、あきれはてます。お前になにか「一本スジの通った人生のポリシー」はあるのか？と。ただ、このリストをじっくり眺めたら（もしできたら、全冊読破をされたら）、「こんな本の群れを喜んで読む人間」としての「おかだ」を理解する糸口が得られるかもしれません。（ちなみに、『天才と分裂病の進化論』と『沈んだ世界』以外はすべて図書館から借りてきています。本当は図書館の方向には足を向けて寝られないはずなのですが、あちこちの図書館を活用しているのでそれが難しいのが悩みの種）

　しかし、これだけ並べると、自分の精神生活を裸でさらしたみたいで、なんだかすんげえこっぱずかしい気分になってしまいますな。ま、たまには、サービスサービス（葛城ミサトの口調）。
　ただ読書の場合、「何を読むか」も大事ですがもっと大事なのは「どう読むか」でしょう。農業で言ったら「土作り」「施肥」に当たる作業を、本を読むことで脳に対して行なっている、と私は捉えています。本当はもっと若いときにこの作業をしっかり行なっておくべきだったのですが、言っても詮無いことは言わないことにしましょう（言っちゃいましたが）。ある講演で「人は、明日死ぬ、というときまで成長の可能性がある」と聞きましたが、それが本当なら私はまだ成長の可能性が（たぶん）あるわけで、まだまだせっせと脳を本で耕し続けることにします。

　ちなみに、12月に入ったときに読みかけで今でも読みかけのままなのは、
『悲しき熱帯（２）』レヴィ＝ストロース 著､ 川田順造 訳、 中央公論新社（中公クラシックス）、2001年、1400円（税別）
『ゼロ年代の想像力』宇野常寛 著､ 早川書房、2008年、1800円（税別）
の二冊です。どちらも医療とはかすりもしない内容ですから、たぶんこちらに読書感想は書かないでしょう、というか、いつになったら読み終えるのかな？
　ついでですが、このお正月、私は勤務に関しては出勤義務が全然ありません。さて、本を読む時間がたっぷり。図書館から『磁力と重力の発見』（山本義隆 著､ みすず書房）全3巻と『レ・ミゼラブル』（ヴィクトル・ユゴー、潮出版社）これまた全3巻、を借りてきてテレビの脇に積んでみました。見ているだけで読む前から満足感がこみ上げてにまにましてしまいます。

テレビはすぐ飽きるけど、読書は、飽きないです。私も読んでいる本は９割くらい図書館です。ほぼ週一ペースで、借りている感じですが、たまに予約がどどっと来て、読むのが追いつかないのが、難点ですが（笑）
今年も、たくさん面白い記事をありがとうございました。

　紅白でも見ようかと思ったのですが、結局テレビのそばで本を読んでます。一応一家団欒(^_^;)。
