「血祭りの病院」
― A Witch-Hunted Hospital ―
いま、アシネトバクター感染症による死亡例が問題になっています。
抗生剤の効きにくいバクテリアが、病院に広がりつつある。この種のバクテリアは、もともと土壌や水中に存在し、健康人には害はないが、免疫の弱い患者や重症患者では、重篤な肺炎、敗血症になることがあります。多剤耐性のDNAをもつバクテリアのサバイバルは、MASAと同様、抗生剤が感染症治療に使われる限り避けられない現象です。
さらに厄介なのは、医療だけでなく、畜産製品や海産物を介した抗生剤の影響です。このたびのアシネトバクターの蔓延は他の先進国でも見られ、多国間に及ぶ問題です。国際的な流通革命に伴って、こうした世界を股にかけたバクテリアの蔓延は、日本だけの問題にとどまりません。
消毒や殺菌を徹底すれば、重症患者への感染は必ず防げるというのは過大な期待かもしれません。物や人が動くだけでバクテリアは無限大に拡散します。一つの病院で集中的に発生するというのは、これまでもしばしば見られた現象です。一旦発生したら、なかなか厄介です。
しかし、問題は、シタタカにサバイバルしたバクテリアが起こす難しい症例を、医療パニックさながら騒ぎたてて、現場の医療従事者を吊るしあげることです。頭を冷やしてから対処してほしいですね？
バクテリアの逃走と逆襲は、一筋縄では参りません。少なくとも、この微妙な問題は、「くつろぎタイムのトレトレ情報番組」には全然ふさわしくない。

― A Witch-Hunted Hospital ―
An event where patients died of infectious disease due to Acinetobacter has become a problem today.
A bacterium resistant to antibiotics is now spreading in hospitals. This type of bacterium exists in soil or water, harmless to a healthy human but often serious to immunocompromised or critically ill patients, causing severe pneumonia, sepsis or other infectious diseases. The survival of bacteria with multidrug-resistant DNA is inevitable phenomenon just like in many episodes of MRSA, as long as antibiotics are used for treatment of infectious diseases.
What is even more troublesome is exposure to antibiotics through livestock products or seafood as well as medicine. There is the spread of multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter in other developing countries, bringing about problems in many other countries. With an international marketing revolution, the problem of bacteria spreading throughout the world is not confined to Japan.
It would be too much expectation that thorough disinfection and/or sterilization could surely prevent infections in severe patients. Bacteria can spread infinitely with movement of staffs and materials. There have been some events where the infectious cases were found in a particular hospital. Once bacteria have spread, it’s tough to control.
The problem is that someone stirs up a great fuss as if it were a panic to witch-hunt field medical professionals in the difficult cases due to successfully survived bacteria. A clear-headed response is deemed desirable, isn’t it?
Escape and counterattack of bacteria are tricky and complicated. At least this delicate topic may be completely inappropriate for a juicy scoop program given to TV viewers at a relaxing time.
