― Tide of Battle Seems Too simple ―

　ホテルの温泉というと、誰しもが「ホテル」の中の「温泉」と思います。また、温泉ホテルというと「温泉」が中心の「ホテル」ということになります。

　また始まった値下げ競争。

　はたして、どっちが苦しいでしょう。「す○家」の「牛丼」でしょうか、「牛丼」の「吉○家」でしょうか。

　このディスカウント戦争はすでに勝敗が見えているようです。

　主力商品の値を下げてお客が増えるのは、まわりに競争相手がいない時です。

　競争相手がいる時に値段を下げていい商品は、それが主力商品でないときです。

　丼の値段を下げるのはいつがいいでしょう？

　その丼が主力でないなら、相手が下げてからすぐ下げるのが最も効果的です。

　そして、相手が値を元に戻した後、値下げをしばらく引っ張るともっと効果的です。

　こうした嫌がらせに対する最も効果的な戦法がひとつだけあります。

　　それは。。。?

　とても簡単なことかもしれません。

　‘A hot spring in a hotel’ makes everybody think of a hot spring as one of various services in a hotel. ‘A hot spring hotel’ means to all of us that a hot spring is a main service of the hotel.

　Discount sales have begun again.

　Which will have a tough time of it, a beef bowl in Sukiya, or Gyudon Yoshinoya?

　In this bowl war, victory and defeat may easily be predicted.

　In a situation that there’s no competitor around a shop, they can expect more consumers by discounting their main products.

　The product which can safely be discounted against the competitors is not a main product.

　When is the right time to discount a bowl?

　If the bowl is not a main menu, it is more effective to wait until the other party decided to discount it.

　And it’s more effective to keep a discounted price even after the other party has restored a price.

　There is only one best way to fight against this sort of bullying.

　　What’s it?

　It seems too simple.

県内も牛丼値下げ競争過熱／需要開拓に躍起

　牛丼チェーン大手３社が全国で展開している値下げ競争が県内でも熱を帯びている。消費者の節約志向が高まる中、各社は期間限定のキャンペーンで利益を確保できるぎりぎりの価格に設定し、需要の掘り起こしに躍起。香川県内に出店している２社の店舗でも、安い牛丼を求めて多くの人でにぎわっている。
　
　香川県内で９店舗を展開する吉野家は２８日から１週間、牛丼や定食を１１０円引きで販売。牛丼並盛りは３８０円から２７０円に値下げしている。１１０円の値引きは４月に続いて今年２回目。同月の来客数が例年の２倍以上だったことから再度実施に踏み切った。
　
　運営会社の吉野家ホールディングスは「従来から多いサラリーマン客だけでなく、夏休み期間に家族客ら新たな客層を開拓したい」と強調する。
　
　吉野家栗林店（香川県高松市東ハゼ町）ではキャンペーン開始以降、昼どきは普段の２倍の客が詰めかけ、家族連れの姿も目立つ。サイドメニューも普段の１・５倍の量を用意している。同店は「滑り出しは好調。リピーターが増えてくれれば」としている。
　
　すき家は２７日から２週間、牛丼の３０円引きを実施し、並盛りは２８０円から２５０円に値下げした。昨年１２月には通常価格を５０円下げて業界最安値としている。運営するゼンショーの広報室は「消費者の外食離れが進んでおり、さらなる値下げで牛丼需要を高めるのが狙い」という。
　
　香川県内の店舗数は１６店。高松上天神店（同市上天神町）で並盛りを注文した女性会社員（２７）は「普段はあまり利用しないが、テレビで値下げを知って来た。少しでも安い方が利用しやすい」と話していた。
　
　値下げすると客単価は下がるが、両社とも「短期間なら来客数の伸びで利益の増加を見込める」と説明する。
　
　低価格路線で競合するファミリーレストラン「ガスト」は牛丼チェーンの値下げ戦略とは一線を画し、季節や流行に応じた特色あるメニューを展開している。その一つが「食べるラー油」を使った冷麺（めん）で、好調な売れ行き。運営する外食大手のすかいらーくは「安いよりも魅力あるメニューを増やして集客を図りたい」という。
　
　持ち帰り弁当チェーンの「ほっともっと」を展開するプレナス（福岡市）も「値下げキャンペーンはせず、商品の品質を向上させていく」としている。

「未来の美しい行進」

―What a Beautiful March in the Future! ―

　女の子が働き、男の子が楽をするという人類史上かつてない進化は、わたしたち人類にとってむしろ歓迎するべきことかもしれません。

　そもそもです。一般に、男の子が仕事を独占すると不況になります。仕事が、競争や戦争の道具になってしまうからです。なぜこうも生産活動が戦争のようになってしまうのでしょう。

　ディスカウント戦争は、売る方は買う方に商品の消費を勧めていますが、売る方はどんどん痩せていきます。労働と報酬の比がどんどん逆転していくからです。

　この戦争は、ほんの少数だけが生き残る戦争です。勝者は、ディスカウントで弱者を喰い潰し、敗者もまたディスカウントというほとんど同じ最終兵器で応戦します。

　女の子は、たいがいそんな割の悪い最終戦争や奪い合いをしません。今一度、働きアリの秩序ある行進をご覧ください。何と美しいメスアリの行進でしょう。

　男の子は、アリの行進を見ると、無意識に行進を邪魔したり、破壊してみたくなるようです。

―What A Beautiful March! ―

　We humankind could be willing to accept the evolution that has never been seen in human history: females play a role of working, and males feel easy.

　In the first place, the men’s monopoly on jobs generally results in business depression, because jobs are used as means of war or competition.

Why do most of production activities end up by a race between men with the same business? 

　In a discount war, the sellers are encouraging the buyers to consume goods, but the sellers gradually dwindle down. A turnaround in a ratio of labor and reward continues to grow. This type of war is for the strong few, not for majority.

　The strong eat up the weak. The weak fight back to the strong with the almost same final arms of discount sales. When people finally don’t want to buy things discounted to the cheapest, the war comes to an end.

　Who can be a real winner, when the price has been discounted to the limit? The winner cannot always boost their sales at the price restored.

　Most of girls don’t like such an unprofitable final war or a mad scramble. Look at an orderly march of worker ants What a beautiful march of female ants!

　Finding the march of ants, boys seem to be tempted to cut it out or wreck it without a thought.

For what?

「男子が楽する時代へ」

― A Man’s Dream To Live An Easy Life―

 　　

　これまで男性は働き過ぎだったのですから、これからはゆっくり生活を楽しむこともあってもいいかも。この場を借りて、皆さまの働き過ぎと心労にお礼申し上げます。

　人間が蟻のように急速な進化を遂げると、女性が男性の仕事を取り上げてしまうようなことになるでしょう。もしそうなっても、それは、蟻に退化するということではなく、むしろ望ましい変化というべきかもしれません。

　アリは、生物の中でもっとも劇的な速さで進化した種類の昆虫であることをわたしたちは思い起こさなくてはなりません。

　女の子がより良い環境で最前線に参画する機会がもっと増えると、男の子はいまよりず～っと楽でゆとりが持てるということです。

― A Man’s Dream To Live An Easy Life―

　Could men relax and enjoy their lives now that men have overworked so far? I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your overwork and strain.  

　When humankind evolves at a rapid pace like ants, it will turn out that females could sort of take away jobs from men. Even so, it may be a desired effect instead of degeneration to ants. All of us need to be reminded that ants are one of species of insect that evolved in the most drastic speed.

　If girls could have more chances to participate in work front in a better working environment, boys could be able to ease their minds and have far more comfortable lives.

Oh, I’m so jealous!

「人間・蟻文明比較論」

― What’s different in civilization between humankind and ants? ―

　働きアリがぜ～んぶオスなんて、どうしてみんな間違ったのでしょう。それは、力仕事は「男の仕事」という偏見からくるのかもしれません。

　さて、蟻社会のオスはどうしたのでしょう？

　春になると、いずこの女王アリを求めて飛ぶ羽が生えたアリがオスです。遺伝子を一匹の女王アリに渡すと、オスアリは残りの数匹の女王アリ候補と一緒に、働きアリに殺されてしまいます。

　ん～。意味深～～～ん。でしょ。

　蟻社会のオスは、遺伝子を引き渡すためだけの「種」にすぎないのでしょうか。

　一方、人間社会はどうでしょう。男性は、遺伝子を分ける権利だけでなく、仕事も独占してしまった時代が長く続いたのでした。そうした不幸な時代、仕事の独占は、男性をより多く働かせることになったかもしれません。

― What’s different in civilization between humankind and ants? ―

　What made us mistake all worker ants for males? What’s behind may be the prejudice that muscular labor should be only for males.

　Well, what about male ants? A male ant is a winged one which flies far in spring to find a queen somewhere. After male gene has been given to a queen, a male is killed by workers together with the other several potential queens.

　　Oh. It means a great deal, isn’t it?

　Is a male no better than a ‘stud’ to share out his gene?

　But what about our human society? As well as the right to share his gene, he had the monopoly on jobs for a long period of time.  In such an unhappy period monopoly on job may have loaded more work on him.

　蟻さんたち大変そうね。こんな暑い日にお仕事しなくてもいいのに。仕事が嫌になったりすることはないのでしょうか。

　蟻の巣は、夏涼しく冬暖かいそうです。一年中、快適な温度で、冷房も暖房もいらないそうです。

　いちばん楽しているのは誰だと思います？女王アリと思いきや、とんでもない。あれやこれやで忙しいみたい。卵を産むのが。

　昆虫は形態学的に地球上でもっとも高度に分化した生命体であると言われます。かれらの生き残りのあり方を学ぶのは良い教訓になるかもです。私たちがよく見かける働きアリって、オスだと思っていたけれど、みんなメスだったなんて知りませんでした。

アリ子：「もう少し離れてついて来なよ！」

― Males To Be Eliminated By Selection―

　Sounds like ants are working hard. I think there is no need to work hard in a hot day. I wonder if they have never felt bored with their work.

　It is said that the ant nest is cool in summer and warm in winter. It has a comfortable temperature all year round, so no heating and cooling system is necessary.

　Who do you think has an easy life? You may think it’s a queen ant. But no way!

　I guess she is busy one thing and another, esp. with laying eggs. It is often said that insects are the most highly-differentiated living things on this planet. Learning their ways of survival may give us many good lessons.

　I didn’t know that all worker ants we often see are not male but female.

「引きこもりの勧め」

なぜこんなに暑いの？

日本では、灼熱の太陽が大地を焦がしているかと思えば、地球の向こう側の南米では豪雪警報が発令されたというし。

どうしてこんなことになるの？

　36度にも達する息苦しい猛暑の日は、みな家に引きこもっています。

　一般に、気温が暖かくなると、血管が広がって血圧が低くなります。でも、35度を超えると、軒並み血圧が上がります。猛暑日の続くときは、予期しない脳梗塞が多くなっているような気がします。

　高血圧の人には、暑い日は「引きこもる」ことを勧めています。無理して外来には来ないようにって。

　え？　薬が心配？

　薬がなくなる前に早めに予約を取っておくか、できれば長めの処方日数をもらうといいでしょう。

　え？暑くて外出できない？

　雨の降ることを祈りましょうね。

― A hot day is to recommend patients to stay at home―

　Why so hot?

　Sunlight is burning over scorching soil in Japan. Meanwhile report has it a warning was given for heavy snow in South America on the other side of the world.

　How did this happen?

　During suffocating hot days with temperature of up to 36 degrees Celsius, people are usually holed up in their homes.

　In general the warmer it becomes, the lower the blood pressure decreases due to dilation of blood vessels. When the temperature exceeds 35 degrees in Celsius, blood pressure increases in many cases. During extremely hot days, cases of unexpected cerebral infarction seem to be increasing.

　I recommend hypertensive patients to stay at home on a hot day, not to try so hard to visit the clinic.

　What? Worrying about medicine?

　You had better make an early appointment before you’re out of medicine. Or make the length of prescription days longer if possible.

　Pardon? Is it so hot that you can’t go out?

　Pray so that we have rain.

「底知れぬ不安にまみれて」

―In the Midst of Indescribable Anxiety ―

なあ。教えてくれ。どーしたらよかったんだ？

みんな寄ってたかって、おまえたちの事を心配してくれたよ。早く処分しろってね。お前たちがいたら、日本がきれいにならないって。おれもな。これまで生きてきてこんなつらいことはなかったよ。おまえたちがみんなの注目の的になっちまって。

でもな。よく考えてみたんだ。お前たちがいなくなりさえすれば、おれも楽になるかもって。いつもの平和な生活が戻るかもしれないって。

でも、さみしいよ。お前たちがもういなくて。楽しかったよ。お前たちがいて。だって、お前たちだけだったんだ。おれがこの世でいちばん誇れる種牛。たくさんお金も使ったよ。女房も子供もそっちのけでがんばってきたんだ。お前たちが羽ばたく日を夢見て。

でも、お前たちがいなくなるまで、さみしくなるってことに気がつかなかったおれはバカだったよ。みんなのためになるなら。それもしかたがないって思ったんだ。でも、もう、な～んにもいなくなっちまってよ。お前たちも。取材カメラも。

大臣なんか「そのうち挨拶に」って言っていたけれど。来るもんか。もう終わったことだし。おれが知事にうなずいたら、処分係りの者がすぐさまやってきた速さと大違いだね。涙をのんで呑むのも必要だって皆言っていたけれど。。。お前たちがいなくなったら知らんぷりさ。

悪いことをした。ごめん。おれは自分の事ばかり考えていた。「どーする？」なんて、おまえたちに聞いたりなんかして。ほんとうは、そんなことをお前たちに聞くべきじゃなかったんだ。「おれはどーする？」って自問自答するべきだったんだ。お前たちを守るためにね。

もちろん、平和が戻ってきたよ。でも、おまえたちがいない平和な日常っていったいなんなんだ？おれはやっぱり、お前たちを守るべきだったって、気がついたんだ。「やってみろ！やれるもんなら。」って言うべきだったんだ。きっと。

もしそんなこと言ったら戦争映画をつくるようなものだったかもしれないけれどね。でも、生きていくってことは、そういうことなんだ。

わたし：「何って。種牛のお話じゃん。」

わたし：「あせらないの。」

大家さん：「その麦わら帽子の格好を見ていると。。。底知れぬ不安を感じるよ。」

―In the Midst of Indescribable Anxiety ―

　Hey! Tell me what I should have done for it?

　Everybody were anxious about what was better for you all, insisting that you should be killed. They said if you survived, Japan would not be clean. It was the bitterest experience of my life that you became the focus of public attention.

　But after long deliberation, I realized that I would feel relaxed if you were gone. I thought the condition would return to its normal and peaceful state.

　But I miss you. I was happy with you. Because you are the only stud bulls that I was most proud of in this world. I spend much money. I worked hard dreaming of your success without paying any attention to my wife and children.

　But I was so stupid that I didn’t realize I would be lonely until I missed you. I thought that I had no choice if it were good for all the people. But now everything was gone, including you and camera crews.

　The minister said that he had a plan to come to say a word of appreciation. But I dare say he would not because it’s over. That’s very different with how promptly culling stuff came as soon as I nodded to the governor. They said I’ve got to say yes against my will, but after you were gone they don’t care.

　I was wrong. I’m sorry about that. I was concerned about myself and asked you which was better. I should not have asked you such a thing. I should have asked myself what I should do to protect you.

　Peace has come again of course But what the hell are peaceful days without you? I realize that I should have protected you. Maybe I should have said “Go ahead! I dare you!”

　If I had said so, I must have made a war movie. But I think it’s just like that to survive.

「どうしてこんなことに？」

― How Did It Happen?―

　感染していないのだから殺す必要はないと、ウイルス専門家も言う。

　素人でも無分別とわかる「無意味な屠殺」を、農家が受け入れるまでに時間がかかりました。農家の気持ちは、政府にはなかなか理解されず、理解されても受け入れられることはありませんでした。

　リストラや村八分の時のように、いら立ちと焦り、そして怒りは、時間がたつうちに、やがて、周りへの後ろめたさに変わってくる。そして、ついに認めてしまう。「自分の子が悪い」「自分が悪い」。。。なんて。日本の「いじめ」の典型的な成り行きです。

　大切なものを理不尽な自然の力で奪われるとき、それは「災害」といいます。人の都合で奪われるとき、それを「暴力」と言います。政治家の顔を立てるために奪われるとき、それを「失政」といいます。

　惨めな運命を受け入れた後に襲ってくるのは、「無力感」です。そして、その後にしばしば生まれてくるのは、「懐疑」「不安」そして、「孤独」です。これを「捨てられ後遺症候群 ’Shock Syndrome After Discarded (SSAD)’」とでもいいましょうか。この後遺症は長い期間にわたって人間の心を蝕みます。

　この後遺症は、競争に順調に勝ち進んできた人にはなかなか分かりませんが、成功者の中にもSSADに悩んでいる人がいます。

　そういう人たちの共通のミステリーとは。。。

　「どうしてこんなことになったんだ？」

― How Did It Happen? ―

　The uninfected bulls, experts say, should not be killed.

　It took a farmer to accept ‘meaningless culling’ which was senseless even to laypersons. The feelings of a farmer was never understood or never accepted by the government.

　For example in dismissal or Mura-Hachibu, frustration, impatience and anger gradually changes to feeling of guilty with time. And then finally people often admit that they themselves or their own child are to blame. That’s one of the most typical courses in bullying in Japan.

　It is termed disaster that unreasonable forces of nature kill the baby. It is termed violence that people rob the baby by their reason. It is termed misgovernment that the government culls the baby for their pride.

　It’s apathy that comes after accepting a miserable result. Shortly afterward, the negative feelings such as doubt, anxiety or withdrawal often come out of apathy. This may be described as ‘Shock Syndrome After Discarded (SSAD)’.

　This aftershock eats the mind of a human being for years.

　It is not well understood by most of successful persons who have sailed downwind. However, some of them have been suffering from SSAD in their lives.

　The mystery common to those people is:

　　　　‘How did it happen? ’

「種が実るその日まで(2)」

― What People Worry About  ―

「種牛にもなるのよ。大切に育てると。」って、わたしが言うと、

「あんな大きなものがどこに入るんでしょうか。大きくなるとウマより大きくなるってことを忘れてませんか?」って、言う大家さん。

わたし：「大丈夫。玄関で飼うから。」

大家さん：「勘弁してくださいよ～。そーゆータワゴト。絶対ダメですからね。想像しただけでこころ折れちまうよ。羊の方がまだましだよ。どうでもいいけど、その前に、地域ネコをここから追い出してくれます？」

わたし：「あら何てことを。この子たちは地域ネコなんかじゃありません。たまたま私のアパートを出入りしているだけです。」

大家さん：「それは、ペットにしているということですよね。」

わたし：「この子たちは私だけのものじゃないわ。地域みんなの癒し。確かに、はじめは庭にいるただのネコだったけれど。」

大家さん：「いつからですか。この部屋がネコたちのホスピスになったのは。ここはお宅に貸しているだけですよ。」

わたし：「そうよ。ここはわたしのお部屋。この子たちが借りているわけではありません。」

大家さん：「そうです。ペットは契約にありません。」

わたし：「おっしゃる通り。契約していないこの子たちに、部屋に入ったらダメという契約を守らせることはできないじゃん？」

大家さん：「弱ったな～。ウシもそんな感じで居座られると、ますます厄介なことになるよ。」

  ― 今日は、彼の心配のタネについてご報告致しました。いつかタネが実るといいですね。

― What A Landlord Worries About.(2)―

“It can grow up to a stud bull, if cherished carefully.” I said.

“Where are you going to hold such a giant monster? I want you to know it will be larger than a horse.” said a landlord.

PLAYGIRL YUMEMI: Don’t worry. I can keep it in the entrance hall.

LANDLORD: For pity's sake, don't give me this shit. Absolutely not! Just the thought of it makes me break down. A sheep may be even better. Anyway, please get all these local cats out of here.

PLAYGIRL YUMEMI: Oh my goodness! Those boys and angels are not local cats. They just happened to be going in and out here.

LANDLORD: It means that you’re keeping then as pets, doesn’t it.

PLAYGIRL YUMEMI: These are not just for me, but a comfort for everybody in a downtown. In fact those were originally common cats wandering around your garden though.

LANDLORD: When did this place become a hospice for cats? This room is rent for you.
