Without questioning about what they died of, many bodies are buried in a mass grave. No one knows their names and addresses of victims in the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Fierce criticism broke out in the Net expecting reasonable initial medical response to the disaster. Access to emergency acute care may be absolutely limited under the chaotic condition. Seriously damaged hospitals there would have neither running water nor enough supply of electric power.
Any sophisticated medical equipments wouldn’t even begin to meet what is needed there for hundreds of victims lying on the floor.
Where is an operating room well-equipped with a surgical light and an operating table available for compound or open fractures? Where is a respirator? Who could find any autoclaves or pressure sterilizers? There would be no gas cylinders. Are there enough saline or blood transfusion?
