Five-year survival rates in lung, breast, prostate and colorectal cancer were lower in the UK compared with everywhere except eastern Europe.
The Eurocare studies of 23 countries looked at the outcome of 2.7m new cases diagnosed between 1995 and 1999.
Government cancer "tsar" Mike Richards said poor results in the UK had been due to delays spotting the disease.
The studies, published in the Lancet Oncology journal, are the largest international projects to compare the survival of patients from 11 different cancers. (以下略)
たまたま、BBCのニュースサイトでこんな記事をみっけました。理由としては「発見の遅れ」や「医療へのアクセス制限」があげられていました。
ちなみに日本の５年生存率について、国立がんセンターのサイトを見ると…
とあります、この数字はそんなに悪くはないと思います。しかし医療技術がほぼ同じEU内でも、英国のように手術までの待機時間が長いために、5年生存率に跳ね返るとは・・・。日本でもこれ以上「医療費削減」でプレッシャーをかけすぎれば、英国と同じようにならないか心配です。杞憂にすぎなければいいですが。ぽち→

前世紀に、日本人が死ぬほど拡大手術の技術を追求しましたが、結局変わらんと言うことであっさりめの手術に集学的治療という流れになれば国の間の差は出にくい。
肺がんもあまり変わらんのではないですかね。ただし、肝臓は間違いなく、日本は世界のトップです。(移植は別として)
日本の成績がいいなんて日本のマスコミは書きませんからねぇ毒。
