側頭動脈炎（巨細胞性動脈炎）の眼科症状
側頭動脈炎による失明の原因としては、内頸動脈系の眼動脈の枝（branches）である短後毛様体動脈（short posterior ciliary arteries）の血管炎による前部虚血性視神経症（Arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (arteritic AION)）の頻度が最も高い。
網膜中心動脈閉塞症（central retinal artery occulusion, CRAO）や後部虚血性視神経症（PION）や皮質盲（cortical blindness）は少ない。
PS1 : non-arteritic AION=atherosclerosis, embolic events, transient hypotension（AION全体に占めるGCAの割合は5%以下）
PS 2: PION＝視神経鞘 軟膜 毛細血管叢 穿通枝の閉塞による球後視神経の（retrobulbarな視神経の）障害
