不思議な眼鏡：『反貧困－「すべり台社会」からの脱出』

・以前ホームレスの調査にとりくんだ病院事務長さんの話をかきました．その話の中で，貧困にとりくむ「もやい」というＮＰＯを知りました．標題の『反貧困－「すべり台社会」からの脱出』（湯浅誠．岩波新書．2008年4月22日）を，大阪の行き帰りの電車で読みました．かなりインパクトがありました．この本も多くの日本人に読んで欲しい本です．

・このブログ記事の標題の「不思議な眼鏡」は，この本で引用されているアメリカの著書の一節にあるものです．まさにそうだなと私は思いました．以下に引用します．

「富めるものと貧しい者が両極端に分化した不平等な私たちの社会は，いとも不思議な眼鏡を生み出し，経済的に上位にある者の目には，貧しい人々の姿はほとんど映らない仕組みになっている．貧困層のほうから富裕層を，たとえばテレビとか雑誌の表紙とかで，簡単にみることができるのに，富裕層が貧困層を見ることはめったにない．たとえどこか公共の場所で見かけたとしても，自分が何を見ているのか自覚することはほとんどない」（『ニッケル・アンド・ダイムドーアメリカ下流社会の現実』バーバラ・エーレンライク，曽田和子訳．東洋経済新報社．2006．

・なんか，すごいと思いませんか？でも，じっさいそうだなと思います．とくに，上で青字にしたところなんか...

・この本の中で，日頃漠然と思っていたことが，整理されました．特に「溜め」という言葉で，三つの事が書かれていました．貧困層は「溜め」が無いとのこと．「溜め」とは，アマルティア・センのいう「潜在能力」のこと．溜池の「溜め」のことです．「外界からの衝撃を吸収してくれるクッション（緩衝材）の役割を果たすとともに，そこからエネルギーを汲み出す諸力の源泉となる．」と書かれています．一つが，お金．貯金のような金銭的な余力のことですね．二つは，頼れる家族・親族・友人という人間関係の「溜め」，三つ目は，「自分に自信がある，何かをできると思える，自分を大切にできるという」精神的な「溜め」と述べられています．一つ目は誰にでも分かること．二つ目は，最近私が認識し，当院の活動に組み入れようとしていること．（頼れる個人のみでなく，頼れる組織となろうと考えています）三つ目も，最近やっと認識してきました．イコールかどうか分かりませんが，言葉を換えて言うなら，「自己肯定感」ではないでしょうか？最近ある新聞ではじまった，あさのあつこの小説の第一話に野球少年達の「俺たちって，すごいんだ」といったセリフがありました．このとき，すとんと自分の胸に落ちました．そうか，こういうことかと．それにつけ，自分の娘にも自己肯定感を持ってもらいたいと思います．私の次女は，いわゆる「ゆとり世代」です．本人もこの問題を認識していて，自分の事を「＊＊は，バカじゃけん」「ゆとり世代じゃけん」と卑下しています．親としては，悲しくなります．「勉強」できなくても，自己肯定感を持って欲しい（実は持っていて，親にわからないだけかも）と思うものです．・・・話が，ちょっと脇道に逸れかかりました．貧困というのは，単に，貧乏というだけでない．そいうった事を教えてくれた本です.

 

＊ホントは，もっと書きたいけど，当直開けでつらいので，これまで．

ミチバ先生、当直お疲れ様です。
小生も小学生の娘達にとまどうことがよくあります。
生まれた時から都会でいろんな面で恵まれている。これは田舎で貧乏育ちの小生とはまったく環境が違います。
でも大きくなったら何になって何をやりたい、そうすれば自分にも社会にもいいことがある、という夢というか希望というか欲というか向上心というか飢え渇望、そういった類のものはほとんど感じられない。
たしかに今もしも自分がこどもだったら、と思うとわからないわけではありません。
自分にも世の中にも夢がもてないから、他の人のことまで気にしていられない、とうこともあるかもしれません。

＞Paul Carpenterさま，お互い，親として苦労しますね．本当に我々が育った時代と，今の子ども達の環境は違い，どう接したらよいか戸惑います．何でも良いから，夢，志をもってもらえれば良いのですが．．．
