水銀性振戦 mercurial trmor/水俣病

・医学書院医学大辞典によると，水銀性振戦とは，「水銀およびその化合物の慢性中毒でみられる身体の一部あるいは全身にわたる不随意な振戦．手指から始まり下肢に及ぶのが特長』とのこと．我が敬愛すべき神経内科のDr.Ｏに「水銀性振戦ってどんなんですか？」と聞いたら、「あの、水俣病の激しいのが典型じゃろう（岡山弁）」と言われました。

・むかし、そのDr.Ｏが私に紹介してくださった神経内科の教科書Merritt's NEUROLOGY(略称メリット）には、Environmental Neurology,Occupational and Environmental Neurotoxicologyという項目があり，その中のMercuryの項には以下のような記述がありました。

Modern epidemics include the Minamata disease from fish contaminated by methyl mercury affecting 2,500 people in Japan.

ここでは、水俣病の患者数が２５００となっていますが、引用文献が載ってなく、どこから取った数字か不明です。公害認定患者数でしょうか？？？裁判が行われているように、診断基準によって、この患者数は変わると思います。そういう細かいことが外国の教科書（日本の教科書も？）には書かれていないのではないかと思われます。
